After her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in1982 (Batch K-34), Dr. Shahana A Rahman completed her FCPS in Pediatrics from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1990. She did her Clinical Fellowship from the Institute of Child Health, University of London, and NUH, Singapore, in 1991 and 1998, respectively. She completed her Diploma and Masters in Medical Education in 1994 and 1995, respectively, from the University of Dundee.

Prof. Shahana A Rahman started her academic career at Dhaka Medical College as Resident Physician, Pediatrics, and subsequently Assistant Professor, Pediatrics. She introduced the Objective Structured Clinical/Practical Examination (OSCE/OSPE) in Dhaka Medical College and subsequently in the then IPGM&R in the year 1995 for the first time in Bangladesh.

Dr. Rahman joined the then IPGM&R, now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), as Associate Professor, Pediatrics in 1995, and since then, she is working there in various capacities, including Professor of Pediatrics, Founding Dean: Faculty of Nursing, Chairman: Central Seminar Committee, Editor: BSMMU Journal, Founding Course Director: Residency program and Founder: Faculty of Pediatrics, Chairman: Department of Pediatrics and Pro-VC (Academy) BSMMU.

Dr. Rahman pioneered the management and care of Pediatric Rheumatology patients in Bangladesh at BSMMU and established the Pediatric Rheumatology Division in BSMMU in 2010.

Prof. Rahman is actively involved in different activities of the Bangladesh Pediatric Association (BPA). She is currently working as the Chairman of the Editorial Board, Bangladesh Journal of Child Health. She has more than 140 publications in her credit in peer-reviewed national and international journals and has collaborated with various overseas organizations and Universities, including BC Children Hospital, PGIMER, India, PRES (European Society of Pediatric Rheumatology), PRINTO (Pediatric Rheumatology International Trial Organisation) & Pediatric rheumatology chapter of Indian Pediatric Association.
